As well as Bromopyruvate and DCA, DDG is a metabolic inhibitor. Chemically, DDG is very similar to Glucose – which in many cases is the main energy source of the cancer cells. DDG enters the cells and blocks key enzymes metabolizing sugar. Sugar metabolism tends to zero in affected cells. While healthy cells are capable to compensate this with a forced oxidative metabolism, utilizing fatty acids and ketone bodies, tumor cells are rather helpless in such situation. The lack of energy resulting from this leaves the cancer cells in a highly vulnerable condition. Almost most mechanisms of resistance are affected, any other anti cancer procedure becomes more effective on that background.
